There’s no denying that yoga is an activity that comes with a lot extra ‘needs.’ Fall in love with yoga and suddenly you need a yoga mat, a yoga towel, clothes you can sweat and stretch in, tumblers with motivational messages, etc. etc. etc. 🙂
Fitness in general is the same way. The more we exercise, the more we realize there are things out there that can enhance our experiences. According to a 2012 study published in Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, people enter a certain mindset when they wear certain clothing. Wear workout clothes + have things to work out with = feel like working out. So, it’s okay to indulge once in a while, especially if it really is a need.
The good news is, you can buy local 🙂 It’s cheaper and it’s something we can be proud of.
Here are a few Filipino brands we can all try and support while we do our yoga.
CLOTHING

They sell sports bras, shorts, and pants that range from P350-P950. Haven’t had the opportunity to try these out yet but on their Instagram, it seems a lot of yogis are enjoying the brand.
LOTIONS, BALMS, AND OINTMENTS

From the makers of Messy Bessy, Yoga Love is a dream to practice with. Use it before your practice to keep the senses extra awake, or after as a soothing balm for the muscles. On the site, it’s P550 per bottle.
Bought mine a year ago and it goes a long way. I use this all the time after classes and students always wake up from their savasana asking what it is 🙂

My regular practice is at White Space 🙂 My savasanas are always the best and I know it’s because of the work my body has done but a small, superstitious part of me also thinks it’s the balm the teachers use. Put a little bit on the shoulders and the forehead and you fall straight into some peaceful me time.
YOGA ACCESSORIES

They sell affordable anti-slip yoga towels and yoga mat bags, to help you #FindYourEquanimity. I have my own Equanimity yoga mat bag and I can say it’s roomy (big enough for two yoga mats), easy to clean, and pretty sturdy 🙂

Currently selling at P130, here’s an antibacterial spray for your yoga bags, yoga mats, gym bags, sweaty clothes, shoes, towels, etc. Yes, you need this.
That’s my list for the day 🙂 If you know of any other good local brands you can recommend, give me a shout out. I’d love to try it and spread the good word.

Great list! I’ve tried most of the stuff here. Messy Bessy also makes mat sprays now and you may also want to check out yoga clothing from Brown Belly. 😉
Thank you Nikki 🙂 Funny, I just met the owner of Brown Belly this week and didn’t know it was her until we had been talking for a while. Thanks for the recommendation, I will definitely add them to my next post.
